Donald Wayne Karnes, age 70, of Galax passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Twin County Regional Hospital. He was born July 6, 1939 to the late L.C. Karnes and Rosa Pearl Lanham Karnes in Lubbock, Texas. He served our country in the United States Army with two tours in Vietnam. He also served in Germany and also many other posts in the United States for a total of 30 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Joan M. Karnes of the home; two sisters, Elizabeth Jan McEntire and Barbara Jean McAllister both of Farmersville, TX; two brother-in-laws, William McReynolds,Jr. and Richard Morris McReynolds; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Karnes.
A Memorial Service will be held at Twin County Funerals Sanctuary on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 2:00pm with the Rev. Norman Goad officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Hillsville Post #1115. Flowers will be appreciated or donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
